Vitamin C can have an important impact on reducing wrinkles, smoothing and generally protecting and rejuvenating skin in two major ways. First, Vitamin C is required for collagen synthesis, which declines substantially in aging skin. Topical application of Vitamin C has been shown to dramatically enhance the availability of Vitamin C for collagen production.

Secondly, Vitamin C is a major antioxidant in skin and can not only prevent harmful oxidation and prevent free radical damage, but Vitamin C also regenerates Vitamin E (which is also in Ultimate Skin) in the skin. An antioxidant works by donating electrons to render harmful elements (free radicals) harmless. Vitamin C regenerates Vitamin E so that it may provide a more sustained antioxidant effect.

Vitamin C, however, is very unstable if it is not in dry form, and can oxidize very easily, rendering it ineffective as an agent for the skin. Putting regular Vitamin C into skin formulas is of no benefit, as the Vitamin C oxidizes quickly and is thus useless. Ultimate skin uses a very stable form of Vitamin C, Calcium Ascorbate, which is calcium reacted to Vitamin C.
